Strategic Planning – A modern day business pillar that is actually ancient!

Business planning, strategic planning, or simply planning is one of the main pillars of any business practice. We all know that we need a plan in order to achieve results.
There are so many books, training materials, seminars, webinars on the importance of planning for any business.
Some theories say that the first business plans were written in the 18th century on clay boards by the Sumerians.
I would even go further back and examine building the Great Pyramids of Giza, Egypt. The ancient Egyptians definitely needed some kind of plan to be able to put thousands of limestone blocks together each weighing an average of 2.5 tons (5,000 lbs.) and to make them stand at 139 meters (455 feet) in height!
For-profit businesses strive to grow and gain more customers to increase their bottom line to become more profitable and increase their market share. Non-profit organizations have objectives of serving the community. Sports teams plan to win championships. Students plan to finish their studies. Everyone and every organization have objectives, stemming out of their… PLAN.
But in order to put your plan together, you need to have data. This data includes (and is not limited to) the answers to the following questions:
Who is your audience?
Who are your competitors?
Who are your customers? Do you genuinely know your customers?
What are your timelines?
What is your budget?
What is your critical path?
What tactical moves are you going to carry out?
Are you sticking to your plan?
Is your whole team committed to achieving the plan?
…
These are just some of the questions that we ask to help putting together a strategy for various businesses. So B2C or B2B or B2B2C, or any of these combinations, it still needs a strategy.
